What is MuchBetter?

MuchBetter is a wallet that lives in an app and is tied to your mobile number. You load it from a card, a bank transfer, a voucher or a crypto wallet, pay the bookmaker from the balance and receive withdrawals into the same balance; from there the money goes to your bank, to a crypto wallet or, with the MuchBetter Mastercard, to a shop or a cash machine. The bookmaker never sees a card number: it gets your phone number, and you approve every deposit in the app.

The wallet is run by MIR Limited UK Ltd, a London company registered in October 2016 and licensed by the UK Financial Conduct Authority as an electronic money institution. The prepaid Mastercard and the contactless wearables are issued by Paynovate SA under the supervision of the National Bank of Belgium and are offered in the United Kingdom and the EEA. In the EEA the wallet itself runs through a European partner, QuickPay, since MuchBetter relaunched the service there.

Bettors use it because the cashier flow is short, phone number and then a tap in the app, and because transfers to and from a bookmaker are free on MuchBetter’s side, with the payout in the wallet the moment the bookmaker releases it. Every top-up also earns MB Coins: one coin per 10 units loaded, and 100 coins convert into one unit of your wallet currency, which is 0.1% back.

How to open a MuchBetter account

  1. Install the app and sign up with your mobile number. The wallet is the app, on iOS or Android. You set a four-digit PIN and confirm the number with the code sent by SMS.
  2. Choose the wallet currency with care. You pick it when you enter your name, date of birth and address, and the app cannot change it afterwards: a change goes through support by e-mail. Take the currency of your bookmakers; every conversion between dollars, euros and pounds costs 0.99%, and other currencies carry an unpublished margin on the XE.com rate.
  3. Verify your identity. Scan the front and back of your ID in the app and take a selfie; MuchBetter allows up to 60 minutes and confirms by SMS, and may ask for a proof of address. Until then the limits are low and you cannot withdraw; the limits that apply to you are under Account › Limits.
  4. Load the wallet. The app lists the top-up methods available in your country with their fees: cards, bank transfer (a Virtual IBAN costs €1 once), vouchers and crypto. A card top-up asks whether the money is for gaming or non-gaming: answer gaming, or the money cannot be sent to a bookmaker.
  5. Pay the bookmaker. Choose MuchBetter in the cashier and type the mobile number of your wallet in international format without the leading zero (44 and the number for the United Kingdom). The request appears in the app; approve it and the money is on your betting account. If the balance is short, the request waits as a pending transaction until you top up.

What it costs

Between the wallet and the bookmaker MuchBetter charges nothing: paying a merchant is free, and so is receiving a transfer from one. Bookmakers normally add no fee of their own. What you pay sits in the wallet: loading it, taking money out and changing currency.

Fees read on 19 October 2026 on the fee page of muchbetter.com and in its Help Centre. The fee page has a country selector but shows no top-up or withdrawal figure for any country: MuchBetter says those depend on the method and appear in the app when you choose it. Open the Top-up and Withdraw screens and read the fee before you confirm.

Two ways to pay less

Pay the bookmaker from the wallet balance, never with the MuchBetter card: the card costs 2% at gambling merchants, the balance nothing. And open the wallet in the currency your bookmakers use. A bettor with a euro wallet who plays in pounds pays 0.99% on every deposit and again on every withdrawal.

Deposit and withdrawal times

Deposits are immediate: the request appears in the app, you approve it and the money is on the betting account, with at most a short delay for a security check. Withdrawals land in the wallet the moment the bookmaker releases them. The wait is the bookmaker’s approval, which MuchBetter says can take up to 72 hours; if the sum goes over your wallet limits, MuchBetter asks for extra verification before it credits the money.

From the wallet to your bank, every withdrawal first passes MuchBetter’s own approval, usually within the hour and at most 24 hours. A bank transfer then takes three to five working days; a withdrawal to a crypto wallet arrives 30 to 60 minutes after approval, and cash from an ATM with the MuchBetter card is immediate. Top-ups are instant for most methods; a bank transfer can take up to 48 hours over a weekend or a holiday.

Where you can use it

Whether MuchBetter works at a bookmaker depends on your country and on the bookmaker’s licence. MuchBetter’s Help Centre gives the rules below.

The MuchBetter Mastercard and the wearables are issued only in the United Kingdom and the EEA. Everywhere, a card issuer may treat a top-up as a cash advance and charge its own fee, and some banks block transactions coded 7995, the code for online gambling; MuchBetter’s answer is a voucher bought on vouchermap.com or another top-up method from the app.

MuchBetter and welcome bonuses

Check the bonus terms first

Bookmakers that exclude e-wallets from the welcome offer list the methods in the bonus terms. If MuchBetter is among them, make the first deposit by card or bank transfer and switch to MuchBetter from the second one. MB Coins, MuchBetter’s own reward on top-ups, are separate from any bookmaker bonus and are paid into the wallet, not into the betting account.

Questions and answers

Is MuchBetter free to use with bookmakers?

Paying a bookmaker from the wallet is free, and so is receiving a withdrawal; bookmakers normally add no fee. You pay to load the wallet and to withdraw to your bank, at rates MuchBetter shows in the app for your country, and 0.99% whenever a transaction converts between US dollars, euros and pounds.

How long does a MuchBetter withdrawal from a bookmaker take?

The money is in the wallet the moment the bookmaker releases it, and MuchBetter says the bookmaker’s approval can take up to 72 hours. From the wallet to a bank account, MuchBetter approves the request within 24 hours and the transfer takes three to five working days.

What do I type in the cashier, my e-mail or my phone number?

The mobile number registered to the wallet, in international format without the leading zero: 44 followed by the number for the United Kingdom. A request then appears in the MuchBetter app, and the deposit goes through when you approve it.

Why can’t I send my balance to a bookmaker?

When you top up by card, MuchBetter asks whether the money is for gaming or non-gaming use and keeps the two apart: funds marked non-gaming cannot go to a bookmaker, only to other merchants, to the card or to another user. Choose gaming at the next top-up. A transaction can also stay pending when it exceeds the limits of an unverified account.

Is MuchBetter safe?

MuchBetter is run by MIR Limited UK Ltd, licensed by the UK Financial Conduct Authority as an electronic money institution; the cards are issued by Paynovate SA under the supervision of the National Bank of Belgium. The app needs a passcode, binds a new device with an SMS code and logs you out after 90 seconds of inactivity, and the bookmaker sees only your phone number.
