Online Banks for Bettors
An online bank gives you a Visa or Mastercard debit card, an IBAN for payouts and the exchange rate, all from the phone. 12 accounts compared on what the card costs, what the bank adds on a foreign currency, how a payout reaches the account and whether you can block gambling payments yourself. Fees read on the banks’ own sites on 19 October 2026.

What to look for
- The card scheme. Visa and Mastercard are both in almost every cashier; a bank that issues one or the other depending on the country tells you which in the app before the card arrives.
- The exchange mark-up. A bookmaker that bills in euros while your account is in pounds triggers a conversion on every deposit and every payout. Free plans usually allow a monthly amount at the interbank rate and add 0.5% to 1% beyond it, more at weekends.
- Payouts to the account. Bookmakers pay by card credit or bank transfer. SEPA Instant and Faster Payments arrive within minutes; the bank’s own name on the IBAN must match the betting account.
- A gambling block. Several banks let you switch off gambling payments in the app, with a cooling-off period before they can be switched on again. Useful to keep, even if you never use it.
- The terms on gambling. Some payment institutions refuse gambling merchants altogether or treat them as cash on a credit product. The table quotes what each bank publishes.

- Entry plan
- Free
- Card cost
- First physical card free plus delivery: £4.99 standard or £16.99 express in the UK, €7.99 standard or €19.99 express in the EEA; extra cards £4.99 on the help centre page or £5 on the fee schedule; virtual card free

- Payouts in
- Bank transfer to the account's UK sort code and account number or to its IBAN: Faster Payments take a few hours and up to 1 business day, SEPA Instant arrives within a few minutes, regular SEPA and SWIFT up to 2 business days; payouts to the Revolut card also land on the same balance
- Gambling block
- Yes — a switch called Gambling block, off by default, under Profile › Security › Payments; it blocks card payments coded as gambling (bookmakers, online casinos, betting apps) at once, does not touch bank transfers or payments through third-party apps, and takes up to 48 hours to lift once you turn it off
- Terms on gambling
- In some European countries Revolut must block card payments to and from gambling operators that the national regulator lists as unlicensed (the help page for Sweden links to Spelinspektionen's licence search) and asks you to contact support if a licensed operator is blocked by mistake. The Buyer Protection Policy that covers Revolut Pay purchases excludes "gambling or games of chance".
The bookmaker sees a Visa or Mastercard debit card, whichever brand Revolut assigned to you, and can pay you out either to that card or by a free Faster Payments or SEPA transfer to your Revolut account details. The fee to watch is currency exchange: a deposit in a currency you do not hold is converted at the moment you pay, free on a weekday within £1,000 or €1,000 a month but at 1% at the weekend or beyond the allowance.
Fees read on 19 October 2026 on www.revolut.com.

WiseUnited Kingdom
Wise Payments Limited (UK customers), Wise Europe SA (EEA customers): e-money institution authorised by the FCA (Wise Payments Limited, ref. 900507); payment institution authorised by the National Bank of Belgium with EEA passporting (Wise Europe SA, no. 0713629988).
- Who can open it

- Card
- Visa or Mastercard (depends on country: the UK card page says Visa, the help centre tells you to check which of the two you hold) (debit)
- Entry plan
- Free (no subscription or plan)
- Card cost
- £7 (UK) or €7 (EEA) one-off for the physical card, standard delivery free; up to 3 digital cards free once the physical card is ordered
- Exchange mark-up
- Mid-market rate plus a conversion fee from 0.24% (UK page) or 0.2% (Irish page), varying by currency, with no monthly allowance; spending a currency you already hold is free
- ATM
- Free up to £250 / €250 a month per account, then 2.69% of the amount above the allowance; ATM operators may add their own fee
- Payouts in
- Bank transfer to the free local account details in GBP, EUR, USD and 19 other currencies: a domestic GBP or EUR payment usually arrives in a few minutes and at most in 1 working day; an incoming SWIFT payment costs £2.16 or €2.39 and takes 1 to 5 working days
- Gambling block
- not published — no gambling block appears in the help centre, and the page on declined card payments lists limits, frozen cards and 3-D Secure, not merchant categories
- Terms on gambling
- The Acceptable Use Policy (updated 25 March 2026) lists "Gambling", "Lotteries", "Fantasy sports with cash prizes", "Games of chance with cash prizes" and "Any type of gambling payments or businesses related to Canada, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Norway, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey, the United States of America, or the United Arab Emirates" among the businesses and transactions Wise does not support and may decline, and adds that "The restrictions below do not apply to lawful transactions using the Wise Multi-Currency Card". The card terms (26 August 2025) say that items convertible to cash "such as casino chips, cryptocurrencies and lottery tickets" may incur additional fees.
Pay the bookmaker with the Wise card, which it sees as a Visa or Mastercard debit card: card payments to a lawful operator sit outside the policy's gambling restrictions, while a bank transfer to a bookmaker, or a payout received by transfer, is a gambling transaction that Wise says it does not support and may decline. The fee to watch is conversion, from 0.2% to 0.24% every time a deposit or payout is in a currency you do not hold.

- Payouts in
- SEPA transfer to the account's IBAN: instant if the sending bank supports SEPA Instant, otherwise within 2 working days (3 over a weekend or holiday); incoming instant transfers are free
- Gambling block
- not published — no gambling block for adult accounts appears in the support centre; only the N26 for under-18s card has gambling, betting and lotteries permanently blocked
- Terms on gambling
- N26 charges a Gambling Fee of 3% to "all private customers who registered for an account after March 12, 2020" and to Business plans, on Mastercard transactions with lotteries, sports betting, online casinos, horse racing and other gambling activities; the fee covers "both incoming and outgoing applicable Mastercard transactions", is charged after the transaction and "can't be refunded". Private customers who opened the account before 12 March 2020 have not paid it since 5 November 2021, after the German Federal Court ruling XI ZR 26/20.
The bookmaker sees a Mastercard debit card, and if you joined N26 after 12 March 2020 every card deposit and every card payout costs 3% in N26's Gambling Fee, which is charged on top of anything the bookmaker takes and is not refunded. The fee page describes Mastercard transactions only, so ask the bookmaker to pay out by SEPA transfer to your N26 IBAN, which arrives instantly from a bank on SEPA Instant, and keep card deposits to a minimum.

bunqNetherlands
bunq B.V.: bank licensed in the Netherlands, supervised by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and the Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM) (bunq B.V., Amsterdam, register no. 54992060).
- Who can open it
- Residents of the EEA living in one of the 24 countries bunq lists: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden; over 18 or with a legal representative's approval
- Card
- Mastercard (credit-type digital card on the Free plan (bunq's "Digital Credit Card", drawn on a separate payment account you fund first, with no overdraft); physical debit or credit cards from bunq Core)
- Entry plan
- Free (bunq Free)
- Card cost
- No physical card on bunq Free ("Upgrade for Physical Cards"; Core at €3.99 a month includes one); one digital card free
- Exchange mark-up
- ZeroFX: card payments in a foreign currency at "the standard exchange rate" up to €1,000 a calendar year on Free, then 1.5% of each further transaction (unlimited on Core and above); the terms say the digital credit card converts at the Mastercard exchange rate, and the cards page quotes "the mid-market exchange rate plus a 0.5% markup" without naming a plan
- ATM
- No free withdrawals on bunq Free: €2.99 each (Core: €0.99 for the first 5 a month, then €2.99)
- Payouts in
- SEPA transfer to the account's IBAN (Dutch, or local in Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Italy and Ireland): instant "when both banks support the real-time payment scheme", otherwise up to one business day
- Gambling block
- No — nothing published as a gambling block; the app lets you block a single merchant after a card payment ("Block Merchant" in the help article "Illegal and repeated transactions protection"), not a category
- Terms on gambling
- The Personal Account Terms (last updated 15 October 2026), section 10.4 "Prohibited activities", say: "There are a number of things you may never use your account for. These include, but are not limited to: […] Any form of gambling; […] This list is not exhaustive. If we notice other risky behavior on your account, we retain the right to end our relationship with you." Section 10.2 adds that bunq may "temporarily block or even permanently close your account" when its use falls outside its rules.
bunq's own terms forbid using the account for "any form of gambling", so deposits to a bookmaker or payouts received into bunq put the account at risk of closure, and none of the data above offers a route around that. A bettor who uses it anyway shows the bookmaker a Mastercard credit-type card with no physical counterpart on the Free plan, and pays 1.5% on card payments in a foreign currency beyond €1,000 a year.

- Card
- Mastercard (debit)
- Entry plan
- Free (paid plans: Extra £3, Perks £9, Max from £19 a month)
- Card cost
- First debit card £0; replacement £5 unless the card was stolen, used fraudulently or expired (two free a year for any reason if you meet Monzo's fee criteria), £30 if sent outside the UK; virtual cards only on the paid plans
- Exchange mark-up
- No mark-up: Monzo passes on the Mastercard rate and card payments in a foreign currency cost £0, with no limit; money received in euros or another currency is converted with a 1% fee (capped at £1,000)
- ATM
- UK and EEA: free up to £400 every 30 days, then 3% (no limit if you pay in £500 every 35 days and have an active Direct Debit); outside the EEA: free up to £200 every 30 days, then 3%
- Payouts in
- Faster Payments to the account's sort code and number, free; Monzo says they usually arrive instantly and can take up to 2 hours
- Gambling block
- Yes: the Gambling block in the app declines card payments that carry a gambling merchant code, online and in person. You choose a cooldown from 2 days to 1 year and cannot switch the block off until it has run out (at launch in June 2018 it was a fixed 48-hour wait after a chat with support).
- Terms on gambling
- The block covers card payments only: bank transfers and Direct Debits you set up yourself go through unless you ask Monzo to block them, and a payment to a merchant without a gambling code may go through and cannot be undone. Under-18 accounts cannot pay for gambling at all.
The bookmaker sees a Mastercard debit card, and a payout by Faster Payments or card refund lands in the account within hours at no cost. Watch the 1% conversion fee if a bookmaker pays you in euros, and remember that a gambling block you switch on cannot be lifted before its cooldown ends.

- Card
- Mastercard (debit)
- Entry plan
- Free (no fee for opening or running the account; Starling sells no paid personal plans)
- Card cost
- First debit card: no fee listed on the fee pages; replacement £5, or £10 if lost or stolen abroad; virtual cards free, up to five active at a time
- Exchange mark-up
- No mark-up: card payments in a foreign currency cost £0 at the Mastercard rate, with no limit; money received from abroad in another currency is converted at Starling's inbound rate (the fee information document of 14 October 2025 puts the margin at 2%)
- ATM
- £0 from Starling in the UK and abroad, with no allowance limit; the cash machine operator may add its own fee
- Payouts in
- Faster Payments in pounds to the account's sort code and number, free, credited within two hours as the terms state; a payout in another currency arrives free but is converted at Starling's rate
- Gambling block
- Yes: 'Gambling controls' under Cards in the app block card payments to most gambling merchants, online and in person. When you turn the block off, a 48-hour delay runs before gambling payments work again, 'making gambling or betting on impulse more difficult'.
- Terms on gambling
- The block covers card payments only; Starling says it may not cover every gambling-related payment and the general terms add that it is not responsible if it cannot block them. Virtual cards linked to Spaces cannot be used at betting companies, money transfer services or crypto exchanges.
The bookmaker sees a Mastercard debit card; deposit with the physical card, because Starling's virtual cards are refused at betting companies. Payouts by Faster Payments arrive within two hours at no cost, and the only fee to watch is the conversion margin on a payout sent in a foreign currency.

- Payouts in
- Incoming bank transfers free, to the UK account details in pounds or to the euro account; the terms say money is added the same business day Monese receives it
- Gambling block
- not published: no gambling block appears on the pricing page, the fee document or the terms we read
- Terms on gambling
- The UK terms forbid using the account or the card for 'illegal gambling'; the EU terms of 9 October 2025 go further and say the card must not be used 'for gambling, any adult entertainment, quasi-cash transactions', and the account not for illegal purposes 'including gambling'. Casino chips and lottery tickets count as quasi-cash in both versions.
The bookmaker sees a Mastercard debit card and can pay out by bank transfer to the account for free, but an EEA customer who bets with the card breaks the EU terms and risks the account. Every card payment in a currency other than the account's costs 3%, so keep the account in the bookmaker's currency.

- Gambling block
- not published: no gambling block appears on the fee pages, the knowledge base or the card terms we read
- Terms on gambling
- The private client agreement (in force since 16 September 2025) bans using the account to organise illegal gambling and allows organising legal gambling or lotteries only with Paysera's written consent and an EU licence; it says nothing about a private client paying a licensed bookmaker. The card terms of 22 December 2025 do not mention gambling.
The bookmaker sees a Visa card, but until Paysera restocks physical cards you only have a digital card, so use it for online deposits. Payouts by SEPA transfer reach the Lithuanian IBAN within a minute by SEPA Instant; the fee to watch is the 0.70% to 1.20% plus €0.10 on every card payment in a currency other than the euro.

Wirex Limited, 9th Floor, 107 Cheapside, London EC2V 6DN (company no. 09334596); in the EEA the card programme is distributed by UAB Wirex, Vilnius, and crypto services come from Crossmint Europe S.L., Spain: e-money institution authorised by the FCA (Wirex Limited, FRN 902025), named in the terms for the UK, the EEA and the rest of the world; the site footer adds that the institution is supervised by the Superintendency of the Financial System of El Salvador.
- Who can open it
- Residents of the 73 countries on the Wirex One card list: the UK, the EEA, Switzerland, Ukraine and other European states, plus ten in Asia-Pacific, seven in the Gulf and Central Asia, five in Africa and nine in Latin America; not the United States; 22 sanctioned countries such as Russia, Belarus and Iran are excluded
- Card
- Visa (the Wirex One card and the metal card are Visa; the general terms allow Visa or Mastercard and the UK terms still refer to Mastercard acceptance) (debit)
- Entry plan
- Free (Wirex One 'Base' tier: no subscription fee and no minimum portfolio; the older app's Standard X-tras plan maps to Base)
- Card cost
- Virtual card free; physical card free to order on the app, delivery €5 in the EEA or £5 in the UK by post, €15/£15 by DHL Express; on Wirex One the physical card is reserved to the Premium tier and above (portfolio of at least $500 with 1% held in WPAY), Base gets the virtual card only
- Exchange mark-up
- No mark-up published: the fee page says rates come from 'multiple liquidity sources' and the fee is shown in the app; the Wirex One card lists the foreign transaction fee as free, with no fair-use limit stated
- ATM
- Free up to €200 (EEA) or £200 (UK) a month, then 2% of the amount; cash limits €750 a day and €5,000 a month on the Wirex One physical card (€500 a day on the older app); the virtual card cannot withdraw cash
- Payouts in
- Bank transfer to the account's own IBAN or UK account details: SEPA Instant usually within seconds, standard SEPA 1–3 business days, Faster Payments in GBP; receiving is free (ACH and PIX top-ups are also listed as free)
- Gambling block
- not published: the help centre has no gambling-block setting; the only published rule is that gambling purchases earn no Cryptoback rewards
- Terms on gambling
- The Prohibited and Conditional Use Policy (EEA and global) bans lotteries, sports forecasting or odds making, internet gaming and other games of chance 'unless sanctioned by a governmental body or regulatory authority', so licensed bookmakers fall outside the ban; the UK terms, however, list transactions that 'involve gambling activities' among Prohibited Articles and Transactions, and gambling purchases are excluded from Cryptoback.
The bookmaker sees a Visa debit card (Mastercard in some markets), and a bank-transfer payout can land on the account's own IBAN by SEPA Instant for free, or in GBP by Faster Payments. The point to watch is the rulebook rather than a fee: the UK terms count gambling among prohibited transactions, so a UK account can be restricted for betting, and ATM cash above €200 or £200 a month costs 2%.

The bookmaker sees a Visa debit card (or a Mastercard if you pay with the second virtual card), and a bank-transfer payout reaches the account IBAN by SEPA Instant in seconds at no charge. The fee to watch is the €2.00 charged on every ATM withdrawal on the Standard plan, plus the €25 monthly inactivity fee the tariff lists for dormant accounts.
Fees read on 19 October 2026 on icard.com.

Questions and answers
Which online bank is best for betting?
The one whose card scheme the bookmaker accepts, in the currency of the betting account and with an IBAN in your name for payouts. On fees the free plans are close; the differences are the exchange mark-up beyond the monthly allowance and whether the bank blocks gambling at all.
Can an online bank refuse a bookmaker payment?
Yes. Banks block merchant categories by policy or at your request, and a few payment institutions exclude gambling in their terms. The table says what each one publishes; the cashier shows the refusal as a declined card.
Does the bookmaker see that I pay from an online bank?
It sees a Visa or Mastercard number and, for a bank transfer, the name on the account. It does not see the bank’s brand unless the card is co-branded, and it cannot see your balance.
