Bangladesh Betting Payment Methods
On 1 July 2026 Bangladesh replaced a gambling law of 1867 with an Act that makes online betting an offence punishable by up to seven years in prison, and its mobile wallets may not pay abroad at all. Here is what the law says, which methods the 53 of the 65 bookmakers reviewed on Betandlink that accept Bangladeshi players actually list, and what bKash and Nagad can and cannot do.

Is online betting legal in Bangladesh?
No. Article 18(2) of the Constitution says that “the State shall adopt effective measures to prevent prostitution and gambling”, and for 159 years the measure was the Public Gambling Act of 1867 (Act No. II of 1867), a law about gaming houses: being found in one cost a fine of up to 100 taka or a month in prison (section 4), gaming in a public street up to 50 taka (section 11). It said nothing about the internet, which is why the first text to name gambling in cyberspace was the Cyber Security Ordinance 2025 (Ordinance No. 25 of 2025, 21 May 2025), re-enacted as the Cyber Security Act 2026 (Act No. 81 of 2026) on 10 April 2026.
The law that counts now is the Gambling Prevention Act 2026 (Act No. 98 of 2026), dated 1 July 2026 and in force from that day; section 49 repeals the 1867 Act. Its definitions cover gambling through the internet, phone networks, social media, VPNs or proxies, and online betting on sport, e-sports, elections or entertainment events, live, exchange, virtual and fantasy betting included. Being involved in online betting is an offence (section 6) punishable by up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 5 crore taka, or both (section 17); online gambling carries up to five years and 1 crore (sections 5 and 16); acting as a bookmaker up to seven years and 5 crore (sections 9 and 20); advertising, sponsorship, affiliate marketing and referral campaigns for gambling up to three years and 50 lakh (sections 11 and 22); running gambling through VPNs, proxies or mirror sites up to seven years and 5 crore (sections 12 and 23). Abetting carries the same penalty as the offence (section 27) and a repeat offence up to double (section 28).
The money is treated as laundering. Section 14 makes it an offence to use banks, mobile financial services, digital wallets, hawala or hundi to move, hide or legitimise gambling money, or to convert it into crypto or other digital assets, and section 25 treats it as a predicate offence under the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012. Investigators may freeze bank, MFS, digital and crypto accounts with the court’s leave (section 31), courts may close them (section 39) and forfeit money, wallets, coins, servers, domains and SIMs to the state (section 29), and the government may block sites, apps, domains, IP addresses and social-media channels, mirror sites included (section 38), and build an NID–SIM–MFS linking system (section 41). Section 43 gives the blocking to the BTRC and the financial monitoring to Bangladesh Bank and the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit. No authority licenses betting, because there is nothing to license; and the Act does not tax winnings, it forfeits them.
Which payment methods work from Bangladesh
The cashiers tell one story and the law another. Of the 53 bookmakers open to Bangladesh, 44 list Visa, 42 Mastercard, 40 Bitcoin, 38 Neteller, 36 Ethereum, 35 Skrill, 25 Paysafecard, 19 Payz, 16 MiFinity, 15 Google Pay, 15 Jeton, 12 Apple Pay and 10 USDT; not one lists bKash, Nagad or any other taka wallet. These are the global menus of the sites, not a statement about what a Bangladeshi bank or wallet will let through. The rules that decide that:
- The Act of 2026. Any route used to pay a bookmaker, a card, a wallet, a transfer or a coin, falls under section 14, and the account can be closed and its balance forfeited (sections 29 and 39). The rest of this list describes what the providers publish, not a way round the law.
- Cards. Bangladesh Bank’s Guidelines for Foreign Exchange Transactions (chapter 19, paragraph 17) let an international card pay online abroad only for the “legitimate purchase of items of goods and services”, up to USD 300 in a single transaction and within the cardholder’s unused travel quota plus USD 1,000 a year. A deposit at a foreign bookmaker is outside that list. The guidelines name no blocked merchant type; the Payment Systems Department’s PSD Circular No. 07 of 28 May 2025, titled “Regarding online gambling activities”, is published in Bengali only.
- Mobile wallets. The MFS Regulations 2022 state that “no outward or cross-border payment transactions shall be undertaken by MFS providers” (7.6): bKash and Nagad move taka inside the country and pay out inward remittances in taka. A “bKash deposit” offered by a foreign site is therefore a transfer to someone’s personal wallet, the route that sections 13 and 24 of the Act punish with up to seven years when it runs on fake SIMs or fake MFS accounts, and up to ten when it is organised.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay. Bangladesh is not on Apple’s list of countries that support Apple Pay, so the 12 cashiers that show it have nothing to offer a Bangladeshi iPhone; Google lists Bangladesh among the countries where Google Pay works with websites and apps, with a local card behind it.
- E-wallets. Payz has no Bangladesh in the country list of its fee page, Sticpay’s fee table has no Bangladeshi route and no bKash line, Paysafecard is sold in 48 countries and Bangladesh is not one of them. Neteller, Skrill, MiFinity and Jeton publish no rule for Bangladesh; loading them with a Bangladeshi card meets the USD 300 limit above.
- PayPal. Five bookmakers list it, but PayPal admits betting operators only with its approval and only where the operator and its customers are in jurisdictions where gambling is permitted by law. Bangladesh is not one.
- Crypto. Forty bookmakers take Bitcoin. Converting gambling money into crypto is named in section 14 of the Act, and the coins, like the wallets, can be forfeited under section 29.

Local payment methods
Bangladesh pays by phone. Bangladesh Bank counted 13 mobile financial service providers in February 2025, with 2,392 lakh registered clients, 1,856,190 agents and 671 million transactions worth 164,726 crore taka in that single month. Two wallets carry most of it.
- bKash. Run by bKash Limited under Bangladesh Bank regulation since 2011, founded by BRAC Bank with Money in Motion and later joined by the IFC, the Gates Foundation, Ant International and SoftBank; over 83 million customers in April 2026, more than 350,000 agents. Cashing out at an agent costs 18.50 taka per thousand, or 13.95 per thousand at up to two “Priyo” agents for the first 50,000 taka a month. A personal account may send 50,000 taka a day and 300,000 a month, add money from a bank or card within the same limits, cash out 30,000 a day, pay merchants without limit and hold at most 500,000 taka.
- Nagad. The second large wallet, linked to the Bangladesh Post Office (its site footer carries the bdpost.gov.bd logo) with an Islamic version, Nagad Islamic. Its fee and limit pages did not answer on 19 October 2026, so no figure is quoted here; as an MFS it works under the same 2022 regulations as bKash.
Both are taka-only, domestic by regulation and absent from every one of the 53 cashiers. What a betting site calls a bKash or Nagad deposit is a payment to a private number, and since 1 July 2026 the account that receives it, and the one that sends it, are what sections 13, 14 and 39 of the Gambling Prevention Act are written for.
How to deposit and withdraw from Bangladesh
What the published rules say about the mechanics, for a reader who wants the facts rather than a route:
- Currency. 18 of the 53 bookmakers offer a taka account; the others hold the balance in dollars or euros and convert on every deposit and withdrawal. A card issued in Bangladesh is billed in taka by the issuer, at its own rate.
- Identity. Every bookmaker verifies name, address and age, and the wallets verify the national ID: MFS accounts are opened on the “valid identity” documents set by the BFIU, and section 41 of the 2026 Act authorises an NID–SIM–MFS linking system. Using a SIM or wallet registered to someone else is the offence of section 13, up to seven years.
- What the bank stops. Cards: online payments abroad are capped at USD 300 a transaction and must be purchases of goods or services (chapter 19 of the foreign-exchange guidelines). Wallets: no cross-border payment at all (MFS Regulations 2022, 7.6). Accounts used for gambling money: freezing under section 31 and closure under section 39 of the Act.
- Crypto. Forty of the 53 sites take Bitcoin and ten USDT, and the coins cannot be reversed once sent. Section 14 names the conversion of gambling money into crypto as an offence and section 29 its forfeiture.
- The cheapest route. There is none that the law allows. The cheapest method in the cashier, a Visa debit card listed by 44 sites, is the one most easily traced to its holder.
- Tax. No tax rule on betting winnings was found on the official pages; the 2026 Act provides for forfeiture of the money instead (section 29).

Questions and answers
Is online betting illegal in Bangladesh?
Yes. Since 1 July 2026 the Gambling Prevention Act 2026 makes any involvement in online betting an offence (section 6) punishable by up to seven years in prison, a fine of up to 5 crore taka, or both (section 17); online gambling in general carries up to five years and 1 crore. Before it, the Public Gambling Act of 1867 and, from May 2025, the Cyber Security Ordinance applied.
Can I deposit at a bookmaker with bKash or Nagad?
Not directly. Bangladesh Bank’s MFS Regulations 2022 forbid mobile financial services from making any outward or cross-border payment, and none of the 53 bookmakers open to Bangladesh lists either wallet. A “bKash deposit” on a betting site is a transfer to a private number, and since 2026 the accounts on both sides of it fall under sections 13, 14 and 39 of the Gambling Prevention Act.
Do Bangladeshi cards work at foreign bookmakers?
Visa is listed by 44 of the 53 sites and Mastercard by 42, but Bangladesh Bank’s foreign-exchange guidelines let an international card pay online abroad only for goods and services, up to USD 300 a transaction, and the 2026 Act treats a card payment for gambling as laundering. Apple Pay is not available in Bangladesh at all; Google Pay is.
